While I believe trial lawyers are some of the worst people in the world, here is a situation where they could go after a variety of entities that allowed the misinformation campaign to be perpetrated, and there would be a shit ton of potential awards to the victims. This could dwarf the awards in asbestos/cigarettes and other class action suits.
This will never be resolved by having congressional hearings as too many of the pols are involved.
