USAID Investigator Checked to See If Cairo Office Was Closed. What Ensued Was a Scary Look at CIA-Style Operation
"This raises questions about USAID activities. This is how an intelligence agency operates, not aid 'from the American People'..."
The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) has become a flashpoint that has ignited the public’s concern about U.S. government reforms.
Newly sworn-in president Donald J. Trump has entered office with the mission to take down the foreign policy apparatus as a top priority of his administration.
This has raised the profile of the once-obscure government agency USAID and has provoked the curiosity of millions of taxpayers.
Joe Rogan, for example, has hosted multiple interviews with Mike Benz, a former State Department official who has blown the lid off USAID as a CIA-style “capacity building” operation that meddles in other nations’ domestic affairs.
The American people are rightly indignant at the thought of their hard-earned tax money going to “USAID” only to line the pockets of limousine liberals, hawkish Republicans, and corrupt NGO workers to back ludicrous programs overseas, like:
$1.5 million to “advance diversity equity and inclusion in Serbia’s workplaces and business communities”
$70,000 for production of a “DEI musical” in Ireland
$2.5 million for electric vehicles for Vietnam
$47,000 for a “transgender opera” in Colombia
$32,000 for a “transgender comic book” in Peru
$2 million for sex changes and “LGBT activism” in Guatemala
$6 million to fund tourism in Egypt
Hundreds of thousands of dollars for a non-profit linked to designated terrorist organizations — even AFTER an inspector general launched an investigation
Millions to EcoHealth Alliance — which was involved in research at the Wuhan lab
“Hundreds of thousands of meals that went to al Qaeda-affiliated fighters in Syria”
As someone who has gone through hundreds of USAID contracts, the agency’s disbursements tend to break down into a few categories: “soft power” influence over foreign civic groups; DEI graft to well-connected NGOs; co-opting “independent” media to become U.S. government mouthpieces; and various grants for obscure purposes that do not appear to be of any utility for the national interest.
Let me clarify: The national interest as determined by the American people, and not corrupt, self-serving elites.
The future of USAID, the U.S. government’s primary overseas aid agency, is now uncertain. Employees have been locked out, and the administration has announced plans to merge USAID with the U.S. Department of State.
Shortly after Trump's re-election, thousands of USAID workers were placed on leave, and many were recalled from missions worldwide. The former USAID administration Samantha Power is gone and Secretary of State Marco Rubio is now in charge.
Trump has strongly criticized USAID’s spending, aligning with his "America First" policy and calling for a reassessment of foreign aid. He posted on Truth Social that USAID’s budget is "TOTALLY UNEXPLAINABLE" and demanded its closure. Elon Musk, a key figure in Trump’s efforts to reduce the size of the federal government, has also claimed USAID is a “criminal organization” and stated that Trump has agreed to shut it down.
Despite former President Donald Trump’s order to shut down USAID operations and recall staff, the agency's Cairo office appears to be functioning as usual, raising serious concerns about its true role and purpose.
An investigator decided to visit the USAID office in Cairo, Egypt to find out if it was complying with Trump’s orders.
What he discovered is stunning.
