President Donald Trump sparked immediate controversy this week when he suggested the federal government could take a more direct role in governing Washington, D.C., if democratic socialist candidate Janeese Lewis George wins the city’s upcoming mayoral election.
“I wouldn’t like it, and maybe we take back Washington and run it on a federal basis,” Trump said when asked about the race.
