There is a political prisoner in the United States of America. That used to be the sort of line you only heard in political thrillers or university bull sessions about creeping authoritarianism.

Yet here we are—discussing a grandmother with lung cancer, beaten by inmates, locked in solitary confinement, and buried by a legal system that seems far more interested in punishing dissent than protecting democracy.
