Merchan is making a concerted effort to defang the defense’s arguments that undercut the phony premise of the Manhattan case.

In today’s case, Merchan is siding with prosecutors who are arguing that “willful” violation of campaign finance law is an “excessive” standard.

The judge has repeatedly undermine the defense’s argument that there is no “crime” at the heart of the case.

Merchan on Tuesday limited regulatory evidence produced by the defense that stipulates there is no limit to the amount of personal funds one can spend on his own campaign.
