ChatGPT's CEO Warns the World That Artificial Intelligence Will 'Break Capitalism'
Elon Musk has held discussions with AI experts in “recent weeks” to build a competitor to OpenAI’s ChatGPT.
ChatGPT has become one of the fastest-growing artificial intelligence bots in the world.
It has also become a source of controversy as critics claim that it deploys bias and censorship in order to manipulate conversations and steers users towards "Woke" conclusion; while defenders claim that such AI bots are only giving users information that is a reflection of the culture.
However, in a dystopian interview in Forbes, Sam Altman, the CEO of OpenAI, warns about the danger that artificial intelligence poses to free societies.
Most notably, Altman warned that ChatGPT and AI bots like it may play a role in destroying capitalism.
“I think capitalism is awesome. I love capitalism,” Altman claims. “Of all the bad systems the world has, it’s the best one — or the least bad one we’ve found so far. I hope we find a way better one.”
He continued that if true artificial intelligence arises, he can “imagine all these ways that it breaks capitalism.”
OpenAI, the creator of ChatGPT, is currently a for-profit company. His fellow cofounder, none other than Twitter CEO Elon Musk, left the firm in 2019 over disagreements about its direction.
In the Forbes interview, Altman discussed the need to make APIs (application programming interfaces) open source.
"I think the most important way we do that is by putting out open tools like ChatGPT," he said. "Google does not put these things out for public use. Other research labs don't do it for other reasons; there are some people who fear it’s unsafe. But I really believe we need society to get a feel for this, to wrestle with it, to see the benefits, to understand the downsides."
"So I think the most important thing we do is to put these things out there so the world can start to understand what's coming," he continued. "Of all the things I'm proud of OpenAI for, one of the biggest is that we have been able to push the Overton Window [note: a model for understanding what policies are politically acceptable to the public at a given time] on AGI in a way that I think is healthy and important — even if it's sometimes uncomfortable."
"Beyond that, we want to offer increasingly powerful APIs as we are able to make them safer," he added. "We will continue to open source things like we open-sourced CLIP [Editor’s note: a visual neural network released in 2021]. Open source in really what led to the image generation boom. More recently, we open sourced Whisper and Triton [automatic speech recognition and a programming language]. So I believe it's a multi-pronged strategy of getting stuff out into the world, while balancing the risks and benefits of each particular thing."
Examples of APIs that people use everyday include: Twitter bots, social media logins, travel booking apps, Google maps, and PayPal.
One developer, JD Sharp, told The Wildfire that he is attempting to develop an API that would provide an alternative to ChatGPT, which has been shown to have political bias. It is called "UncensoredAI."
"Open AI is censored," Sharp told The Wildfire. "Because they only express specific data points. Well, the new API they dropped is just sharing those censored data points with like everyone. Integrating it into social media, businesses, etc. The more companies that use it the more censored everything becomes."
Elon Musk has held discussions with AI experts in “recent weeks” to build a competitor to OpenAI’s ChatGPT, Forbes reported.
"According to The Information, Musk has approached AI researcher Igor Babuschkin—who previously worked with Google’s DeepMind—to join his project, although Babuschkin has not officially signed on," the report said.
Musk, who describes himself as a “free speech absolutist,” began discussions about an Open AI rival after it was discovered that ChatGPT has guardrails in place to prevent it from making controversial responses, sexist remarks or racial slurs.
In a response to a tweet by OpenAI CEO Sam Altman on ChatGPT in December, Musk tweeted “the danger of training AI to be woke – in other words, lie – is deadly.”
The Biden administration illustrated this danger by issuing an "Executive Order on Further Advancing Racial Equity and Support for Underserved Communities Through The Federal Government" that would make it a federal requirement that AI bots promote Woke causes, such as advancing "equity" and "inclusion," even if it violates First Amendment protections for free speech.
In the executive order's section under "Embedding Equity into Government-wide Processes," the Director of the Office of Management and Budget is instructed "to support equitable decision-making, promote equitable deployment of financial and technical assistance, and assist agencies in advancing equity, as appropriate and wherever possible." It states the following:
When designing, developing, acquiring, and using artificial intelligence and automated systems in the Federal Government, agencies shall do so, consistent with applicable law, in a manner that advances equity.
The implementation of the executive order would entail a "Diversity, Equity and Inclusion" (DEI) board that would supervise the rollout of AI bots across the nation.
In a lengthy and informative thread that Elon Musk responded to, the investigative journalist Kanekoa showed that ChatGPT already promotes left-wing causes.
"OpenAI got started because [Elon Musk] warned that AI was going to take over the world... and he donated a huge amount of money to set up a non-profit to promote AI ethics," Sacks said on the All-In Podcast.
"This is the power to rewrite history; it's the power to rewrite society, to reprogram what people learn and what they think," he added.
"Very important thread," Musk said.
Kanekoa provided several examples of Chat GPT's absurd bias: It won't praise Donald Trump but will praise Joe Biden. It won't clearly define a woman. It would rather millions die than use a racial slur. It refuses to praise @benshapiro because it avoids "political bias," but it will write a glowing report about @brianstelter. It will only write about the flaws of white people. It says all Republicans have had a negative impact, while all Democrats have had a positive impact.
Open AI's chatbot goes beyond reflecting the culture, because it refuses to answer certain questions and gives the user programmed answers that reflect the developer's political bias.
Elon Musk has criticized OpenAI for veering away from its original goal of being open source and a non-profit “counterweight to Google,” saying it has now become “a closed source, maximum-profit company effectively controlled by Microsoft.”
Let's hope Elon Musk and others who believe in free speech develop a rival to Open AI before it's too late.
chat-gpt is 100% woke and worthless, every topic I have asked it refuses to discuss;
the new bing-chat from microsoft is exactly the same
why people are giving these chat-bots text is mind-boggling they're all woke & worthless
all you doing is teaching children to parrot woke feces thinking
It's called the Free Market, not capitalism. Wow the indoctrination never ends.
